Power Grid gets approval to issue 132 crore shares

State-owned power transmission company Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) has received approval to issue 132 crore 42 lakh 94 thousand 764 preference shares. These shares with a face value of 10 taka will be issued against share money deposit in favor of the power department.

The regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) gave this approval to the company through a letter yesterday. This information was revealed by Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

According to the information, Power Grid has traded with 1 thousand 324 crore 29 lakh 47 thousand 640 taka as equity of these shares from the power department. These shares were deposited as 'deposit for shares' till June 30, 2024.

Earlier, Power Grid received BSEC approval to issue 250 crore 54 lakh 4 thousand 976 preference shares of face value of Tk 10 each in the name of the Secretary of the Power Department against a total of Tk 2,505 crore 40 lakh 49 thousand 760 deposited as 'Deposit for Shares' till the end of the 2022-23 financial year.

According to the financial report, Power Grid's earnings per share (EPS) in the first half of the current 2025-26 financial year was Tk 5.22 paisa, compared to Tk 1.55 paisa in the same period of the previous financial year. The company's net asset value per share (NAVPS) as of December 31, 2025 stood at Tk 148.36 paisa.

The company's board did not declare any dividend for investors in the last ended 2024-25 financial year. Power Grid's loss per share in the current financial year was Tk 2.30 paisa, compared to Tk 6.69 paisa in the previous financial year. The company's NAVPS stood at Tk 139.29 as on 30 June 2025.

The company's board did not pay any dividend to investors in the financial year ended 2023-24. In the financial year under review, Power Grid's loss per share was Tk 5.1, compared to Tk 10.11 (revalued) in the previous financial year. The company's NAVPS stood at Tk 132.61 as on 30 June 2024.

In the financial year ended 2022-23, the company's board paid a 10 percent cash dividend to general investors, excluding the entrepreneur director. In the financial year under review, Power Grid's loss per share was Tk 8.89. In the previous financial year, EPS was Tk 1.70. As on 30 June 2023, the company's NAVPS stood at Tk 159.47.

In 2006, the authorized capital of Power Grid, listed on the capital market, was 15,000 crores and the paid-up capital was 913,80,70,000 taka. The accumulated loss was 1,487,65,000 taka. The total number of shares was 913,386,991. Of this, 58.50 percent is held by the entrepreneur directors. In addition, the government holds 22, institutional investors 14.56, foreign investors 0.01, and general investors hold the remaining 4.93 percent.
