The Department of Agricultural Extension distributed 2,585 fruit, timber, and medicinal saplings to 517 families across Paikgachha Upazila on Saturday as part of a government agricultural incentive program.
The initiative, which covered one municipality and 10 unions, aims to promote environmental sustainability while offering local farmers new avenues for economic self-reliance.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Md. Ekramul Hossain led the distribution. He briefed the farmers on proper planting techniques and long-term tree care. According to the department, the fruit and timber trees will eventually provide a supplemental income for the families, while the medicinal plants will offer accessible natural remedies.
Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer SM Monirul Huda, along with other local officials and agricultural assistants, attended the day-long event.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting that the saplings will provide tangible financial support in the future while helping to expand Paikgachha’s green cover.
