At least one Rohingya student has died, and several others are feared trapped after a sudden landslide struck a madrasa in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in Block A-3 of Kutupalong Rohingya Camp 5 in Ukhia. Local sources report that the landslide hit while classes were actively in session. First responders from the Fire Service and Civil Defence immediately mobilized to the site to launch a search and rescue operation.
Ukhia Fire Service Station Master Dollar Tripura confirmed the recovery of one body from the debris. With rescue efforts still underway in the vulnerable, hilly terrain, authorities fear the number of casualties could rise as the operation continues.
