Clashes at Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) in Tangail late Tuesday night left at least 10 people injured, including an assistant proctor, following a dispute over a World Cup screening. Extensive campus vandalism was also reported.

The conflict erupted around 10:00 PM before the Argentina vs. Egypt match. According to eyewitnesses, students from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Food Technology and Nutritional Science (FTNS) departments argued over seating arrangements. The dispute quickly escalated into physical violence.

Although the proctorial body temporarily calmed the situation, hostilities reignited after the match. A chase and counter-chase ensued involving students from the ICT, FTNS, and Statistics departments. At 1:00 AM, a third major altercation broke out at the first academic building, drawing in Chemistry students. During this hour-long clash, rioters smashed building windows and destroyed outdoor planters.

Teachers and the proctorial body fully restored order by 3:00 AM. While tensions lingered into Wednesday morning, July 8, the campus atmosphere has since returned to normal.

The proctor's office confirmed that seven students are receiving treatment at Tangail Medical College Hospital. One critically injured student was transferred to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital. Assistant Proctor Dr. Abdul Quddus received first aid after being injured while intervening in the melee.

MBSTU Proctor Dr. Monir Morshed stated, "A scuffle over a trivial issue escalated, but the proctorial body and faculty have brought the situation under control." He added that administration is currently holding discussions with the Vice-Chancellor and the involved students to ensure a fair resolution.
