Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman has called on the members of the Regiment of Artillery and the Army Air Defence Corps to acquire capabilities through modern and up-to-date training and be ready to face the tough challenges of the 21st century.

He made this call as the chief guest at the 44th Regiment of Artillery and the first annual commanders' conference of the Army Air Defence Corps at the Artillery Centre and School (AC&S) in Halishahar Cantonment, Chittagong on Thursday (October 30). This information was given in a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said that upon reaching AC&S, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman was given the GOC, Army Training and Doctrine Command; GOC, 24 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chittagong Area and Commandant, AC&S welcomed the gathering. In his address as the chief guest to all the commanders and captains of the Regiment of Artillery and Army Air Defence Corps present at the annual commanders' conference, the Chief of Army Staff mentioned the glorious traditions of both the corps and their contribution to the service of the motherland.

At the same time, he called upon all the members of the Regiment of Artillery and Army Air Defence Corps to be ready to face the difficult challenges of the 21st century by acquiring capabilities through modern and up-to-date training.

In addition, during the exchange of views with the officers of the Regiment of Artillery and Army Air Defence Corps, the Chief of Army Staff shed light on various issues including technological development, research, professional skill enhancement and future plans of the corps.

The event was attended by GOC, Army Training and Doctrine Command; Director General, Directorate of Immigration and Passports; GOC 17 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Sylhet Area; GOC 24 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chittagong Area; Master General of the Ordnance, Bangladesh Army; Chairman, BEPZA; Senior Directing Staff, NDC; Senior Officers of Army Headquarters; Commandant, AC&S; Commanders of all Artillery Brigades of Bangladesh Army; Commander of Air Defence Brigade; Commander of Artillery Regiment and Commander of Air Defence Regiment were present.

On 29 October, Major General Md. Nurul Anwar, Director General of Immigration and Passport Department, formally assumed charge as the 10th Colonel Commandant of Regiment of Artillery, AC&S, and Major General Md. Abu Bakr Siddique Khan, Master General of the Ordnance, Bangladesh Army, formally assumed charge as the first Colonel Commandant of Army Air Defence Corps.
