


Bangla New Year 1433 was celebrated in Paikgachha with day-long programmes organised by the Upazila Administration and SDF.
The celebrations began on Pahela Baishakh morning with a colourful Baisakhi procession that paraded through the main roads of the upazila sadar. Various educational and cultural institutions took part, showcasing traditional Bengali heritage with decorated horse carts and palanquins.
Participants included Paikgachha Government College, Fasiar Rahman Women's College, Government High School, Government Girls' High School, Technical Training Center, Model Government Primary School, Shaheed Gafur Government Primary School, Universal Kindergarten, Barnamala Kindergarten, The Rising Pre-Cadet School, and local cultural organisations.
Later, a Baisakhi fair and cultural programmes were held at the Upazila Parishad premises. A total of 14 stalls were set up, including 10 by SDF and others by the Animal Resources and Women’s Affairs departments. The stalls displayed traditional rural products and crafts.
In the afternoon, friendly sports events added to the celebrations. A volleyball match was held between the Upazila Administration and Municipality Administration at the Parishad ground. A football match also took place at Kapilmuni Sahachari Vidyamandir মাঠ.
Additionally, Chaitra Sankranti and Baisakhi fairs were organised at Gadaipur Football Ground by the local committee.
The programme was chaired by Upazila Executive Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury. Among others present were Dr Farzana Yasmin Lisa, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Fazle Rabbi, Professor Samaresh Roy, Dr Ahsanara Binte Ahmed, Nahidul Islam, Zulfikar Ali, Lalu Sardar, Utpal Kumar Bain, Saikat Mallick, Ekramul Hossain, Dr Partha Pratim Roy, Aslam Parvez, Tasrin Zaman, and local journalists and community leaders.
