Jhalakathi celebrated the first day of the Bengali New Year 1433 on Tuesday with a range of traditional events including folk fairs, Ha-du-du competitions and cultural programmes.

The day began at 9:00 AM with a vibrant "Mangal Shobhajatra" organized by the district administration. The procession, showcasing various elements of Bengali heritage started from the Deputy Commissioner’s office paraded through the city's main roads and concluded at the Shishu Park.

Key attendees included District Council Administrator Advocate Shahadat Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Momin Uddin, Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman and Municipal Administrator Kawsar Hossain. They were joined by members of local socio-cultural organizations and residents from all walks of life.

Following the parade an open-stage cultural show was held at the Shishu Park, featuring folk dances and songs performed by Shishu Academy artists. Various other fairs and cultural events were also hosted across the district to mark the occasion.
