Traditional Lathi Khela and Processions Mark New Year in Bheramara

Bheramara Upazila welcomed the Bengali New Year 1433 with traditional festivities, highlighted by a grand procession and a vibrant "Lathi Khela" (stick-fighting) display.

The events were jointly organized by the Bheramara Upazila Administration and Bheramara Government College.

The celebrations began at 9:00 AM on Tuesday with a colorful rally led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rafiqul Islam Robin. Alhaj Abdul Gafur, Member of Parliament for Kushtia-2, attended as the chief guest. The procession started at the Upazila Parishad and paraded through the town's main thoroughfares.

A major attraction of the day was the traditional Lathi Khela performance at Bheramara Government College organized under the leadership of Principal Professor Md. Abdus Sattar. The display aimed to revive and showcase Bengal’s ancient folk heritage to the younger generation.

The event saw participation from various dignitaries, including Assistant Commissioner (Land) Dr. Gazi Ashiq Bahar, Upazila BNP Convener Adv. Touhidul Islam Alam, and local leaders from different political and social organizations.

Teachers, students and residents from all walks of life joined the festivities to mark the first day of the Bangla calendar.
