Members of Rapid Action Battalion-10 (RAB-10) have arrested the prime accused in the killing of a teenage worker in Boalmari, Faridpur, police said on Thursday.

The arrested man, Rihat Sheikh alias Hakim (22), was detained from the Sreepur area of Magura district. He is a resident of Ramnagar village in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur.

RAB-10 Company Commander Squadron Leader Tariqul Islam disclosed the information at a press briefing on Thursday evening.

According to RAB, the incident occurred on the night of February 23 in Dobra village under Boalmari Police Station. The victim, Md Sajib alias Sharif (12), worked at Akij-Bashir Janata Jute Mill. After finishing work, he was using compressed air to clean himself when the accused and an associate allegedly forced high-pressure air into his body, causing severe internal injuries.

The boy was first taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He died on February 25 while undergoing treatment. Doctors said his intestines were severely perforated, and despite surgery, his life could not be saved.

Following the death, the victim’s father filed a murder case at Boalmari Police Station on February 26 under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.

RAB officials said the accused went into hiding after the incident. Using intelligence inputs and technology, RAB arrested the main suspect within 24 hours of the case being filed. He will be handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.

RAB said it maintains a zero-tolerance stance against brutal crimes and will continue operations to ensure public safety and law and order.
