Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced plans to develop Chattogram into a full-fledged commercial capital. He spoke to reporters at Shah Amanat International Airport on Friday (February 20), during his first visit to the city after assuming office.
The minister emphasized that large-scale investment is essential to establish Chattogram as a true commercial hub. He highlighted the need to modernize and expand the activities of Chattogram Port to support this goal.
“Investment is the only way for Chattogram to become a commercial capital,” he said. He added that the government has several major development plans for the city, though details cannot be described briefly. He also identified unemployment as the country’s biggest challenge, which he believes can be addressed through planned investment.
Reflecting on the formation of an elected government, he said, “Now everyone must work together to fulfill the hopes and expectations of the people.”
During his visit, the minister first visited his family graveyard in Uttar Kattali, Pahartali Police Station, to pay respects to his parents. He then attended Friday prayers at Kadamtali Madarbari Jame Mosque and greeted party leaders and activists at his residence in Mehedibagh.
In the afternoon, he participated in a meeting with leaders of organizations providing port services. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka at 8:25 pm.
