The government has terminated the contractual appointment of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director (MD) and CEO, Shafiqur Rahman, following his arrest for the alleged torture of a minor domestic worker.

Dr. Humaira Sultana, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been appointed as the acting MD and CEO until a permanent successor is named.

The Ministry issued an office order on Tuesday confirming the cancellation. The decision follows the imprisonment of Shafiqur Rahman on criminal charges, with the Ministry citing the need to ensure "efficient and effective management" of the national flag carrier.

Police arrested Shafiqur Rahman and his wife from their Uttara Sector 9 residence early Monday (February 2) morning. They are accused of inhumanely torturing an 11-year-old girl employed in their home.
