Police have recovered the body of a young man named Elias (25) in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur. The body was recovered from the Tek Bridge area of Koruilla in Bahadursadi Union around 10 am on Sunday (February 1).
The deceased Elias is the son of Sharif of the Chailadi area of Jamalpur Union. He was a daily laborer by profession.
According to police and local sources, on Sunday morning, locals saw a body floating in the water under the Tek Bridge of Koruilla on the Chailadi road from the south of Bahadursadi Union and informed the police. Later, the police recovered the body around 10:30 am and took it to the police station.
Local sources said that the deceased Elias was allegedly associating with the scoundrel youths of the area and consuming drugs. On Saturday night, Hanif Kazi, son of Nasir Kazi, an oil trader from the southern part of Dalan Bazar, was attacked by a group of miscreants on his way home on that road. At one point in the scuffle, he managed to escape from there and return home.
However, it could not be confirmed whether Elias was among the miscreants in that incident.
Locals believe that Elias may also have been murdered by miscreants.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zakir Hossain said that the body has been recovered. An investigation is underway considering the overall situation. It will be possible to quickly uncover the reason for the murder.
