


Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officers dismantled a counterfeit money factory in Gazipur on Monday night, arresting three individuals, including the operation's mastermind.
The suspects—Arif Raihan (31), Md. Rubel Mia (33), and Md. Zahidul Islam Sabuj (31)—were caught red-handed during a raid at "Khokon Villa" in the Dattapara area of Tongi. Officials seized counterfeit notes totaling Tk 540,000 along with specialized production equipment.
Acting on a tip-off, a RAB-1 team stormed the flat at approximately 11:30 PM. Investigators discovered a sophisticated setup that had been operating for an extended period. The seized hardware including 4 Printers and 3 Laptops, Scanners and Laminating machines and Specialized paper, chemicals, and dyes.
During initial interrogation, the detainees confessed to producing and distributing fake currency across the region. According to RAB-1 Company Commander Lieutenant Commander Md. Nafiz Bin Jamal, the group planned to flood the market with counterfeit bills ahead of Ramadan and Eid.
"We are taking a strict stance against crimes that destabilize our economy and defraud honest citizens," said Lt. Commander Jamal.
The suspects have been handed over to Tongi East Police Station. A case has been filed against them under the Special Powers Act, 1974.
