NCP demands resignation of Chattogram Mayor

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded the resignation of Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain in the wake of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.

This demand was made at a rally organized at Biplob Udyan Ground in Gate No. 2 area of Chittagong city on Monday (January 19) afternoon.

The NCP said that the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has already banned 332 terrorists from entering the area. However, no arrests or effective preventive measures have been taken so far. The NCP believes that in this situation, the law enforcement agencies are evading their duties and the safety of ordinary citizens and voters is at risk.

They also said- 'We would like to remind you that in the interest of protecting the impartiality of the elections, Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud and Information Advisor Mahfuz Alam resigned from their posts long ago. In the same reality, the current Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Dr. Shahadat Hossain must also resign

They claim that Dr. Shahadat Hossain is actively participating in the election campaign of BNP candidates. NCP fears that in this situation, being in the post of mayor will affect the election and it will not be possible to ensure a level playing field.

Chattogram Metropolitan NCP has said that Dr. Shahadat Hossain must resign immediately before the mayoral term ends on the 27th of this month and before the election campaign starts on the 22nd.
