


A murder case has been filed against three people on charges of killing a businessman who tried to stop him from beating a shopkeeper in Kaliganj, Gazipur. The police have sent the three accused arrested in this incident to jail through the court.
When they were produced in court on Sunday (January 18) afternoon, the judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
Earlier, on Saturday (January 17) night, the deceased's son, Limon Ghosh, filed the case with Kaliganj Police Station as the plaintiff.
The deceased businessman's name is Liton Chandra Ghosh alias Kali (50). He is the son of Nirmal Chandra Ghosh alias Kalu of Chandaiya area. He owns a business establishment called 'Baishakhi Sweetmeat and Hotel' in the area adjacent to the municipality.
The accused in the case are Masum Mia (25), a tenant of the area adjacent to Kaliganj Municipality, his mother Majeda Begum (42) and Majeda Begum's second husband Swapan Mia (48).
The statement said that the deceased Liton Chandra Ghosh was a heart patient. He had been in a dispute with the accused for a long time on various issues. On Saturday, at around 11:30 am, accused Majeda Begum went to Liton Chandra Ghosh's shop to buy snacks and started talking loudly for no reason. At that time, when shop employee Ananta Das (18) requested her to speak calmly, she got angry and started abusing him. Later, Majeda Begum called her son Masum Mia and husband Swapan Mia on her mobile phone. They came to the shop and suddenly beat Ananta Das and injured him in various parts of his body. At that time, when Liton Chandra Ghosh tried to stop him, he was also beaten indiscriminately. At one stage, accused Swapan Mia took a steel hammer from the shop and hit Liton Chandra Ghosh on the nose. At the same time, accused Masum Mia punched him hard on the left side of his chest, causing Liton Chandra Ghosh, who was suffering from heart disease, to fall to the ground on the spot. He later died.
During the incident, local people came forward and arrested the three at the hands of shop workers Ananta Das, Samrat Chandra Das, Biplob Chandra Das, Sumon Das and the deceased's younger daughter Pooja Rani Ghosh. At that time, the agitated crowd lightly beat Masum Mia and Majeda Begum, injuring them. Later, Liton Chandra Ghosh was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The injured worker Ananta Das was given first aid.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and took the three arrested into custody.
Kaliganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Aslam Khan, the investigating officer of the case, said that the deceased's son has filed a murder case against three people as the plaintiff. The three arrested accused were sent to jail through the court on Sunday afternoon.
