A mobile court has fined a person Tk 2 lakh for illegally cutting land from a government land near the Hasar Beel of the Deran Haor in Shantiganj Upazila of Sunamganj district with a Vekku machine. The arrested person is Nurul Haque Nuru, son of Abdur Rahman of Kakiarpar (Noagaon) village in Joykals Union of Shantiganj Upazila.

On Tuesday (January 6), at 4:30 pm, based on a secret tip-off, the land grabber Nurul Haque Nuru was arrested under the leadership of Shantiganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Fatema-Tuj-Zohra and in collaboration with Shantiganj Police Station for illegally cutting land from a government land near the Hasar Beel of the Deran Haor with a Vekku machine.

Later, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on the accused under Section 4 of the “Sand Mahal and Soil Management Act, 2010” and in default of payment, he was sentenced to 6 months in jail.

Shantiganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Fatena-Tuz-Zohra said that such drives will continue to protect the environment and government assets.
