


Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman met with a high-level Christian community delegation today to discuss religious harmony, minority rights, and peaceful coexistence.
The 10-member delegation, led by American academic Dr. Gordon Klingenschmitt, paid a courtesy call on the Jamaat chief at the party’s central office in Moghbazar.
During the exchange, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described Bangladesh as a multi-religious and multicultural nation. He emphasized that ensuring the religious freedom and security of every citizen is a fundamental responsibility of the state. He further noted that his party remains committed to advocating for the dignity and justice of people across all faiths.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair described the talks as cordial and positive.
Delegation members shared perspectives on social and religious issues affecting the Christian community, expressing hope for stronger mutual cooperation. Dr. Klingenschmitt praised the interfaith dialogue and stressed the importance of continued engagement between religious groups.
The delegation included Martha Dash, General Secretary of the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh; Reverend Bony Baroi, Chairman of the Bangladesh Evangelical Revival Church; and other community leaders.
