The High Court has granted bail to journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Thursday (March 5).

Lawyer Aslam Mia argued the bail petition on behalf of Anis Alamgir during the hearing.

Earlier, on January 22, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court rejected his bail application.

Anis Alamgir has been in jail since December last year in connection with a case filed with Uttara West Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

On December 14, he was taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning from a gym in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. Later, he was shown arrested in the case.

The following day, December 15, he was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka and applied for bail. The court rejected the plea and granted police a five-day remand.

After completing the remand, he was sent to jail on December 20. He had remained in custody since then until the High Court granted bail.
