Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud announced on Sunday that elections for the country’s city corporations will be held in phases starting after Ramadan.

Speaking at an event organized by the Reporters Forum for Elections and Democracy (RFED) on March 1, the Commissioner confirmed that local government polls are a priority. "City corporation elections will begin after Ramadan and continue throughout the year as various terms expire," he stated.

Addressing the format of these polls, Commissioner Masud noted that the Election Commission (EC) is currently awaiting a parliamentary decision on whether candidates will use political party symbols.

Reflecting on the 13th National Parliament elections and the constitutional referendum held on February 12, the Commissioner described the process as fair. However, he emphasized that the EC remains committed to identifying and addressing any administrative shortcomings observed during those polls.

He concluded by urging journalists to maintain impartiality and welcomed constructive criticism to help strengthen the Commission’s transparency.
