Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has applied for relief from his post, citing personal and family reasons. The Commissioner signed his resignation letter on Wednesday (February 25) afternoon and forwarded it to the Police Headquarters.
Confirming the move to the media, Sajjat Ali stated that his decision was strictly personal. Although his contract was slated to end on November 21, he chose to step down nine months early.
This high-profile resignation follows that of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, who submitted his resignation on February 15. The consecutive departures of top law enforcement officials have sparked widespread discussion regarding administrative changes.
The resignation letter is currently being processed. Sajjat Ali will be officially relieved of his duties upon approval from the appropriate authorities. Given the critical nature of the DMP Commissioner’s role in maintaining capital security, the government is expected to announce a successor shortly.
Official sources indicated that the vacancy will be filled through the standard appointment process to ensure administrative continuity.
