Iran has threatened a "devastating and extensive" escalation against Israel and the United States following reports of airstrikes hitting civilian infrastructure in the capital, according to state media.
A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran's top military operational command, issued the warning via the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). The statement clarified that any further strikes on Iranian civilian targets would trigger a retaliatory phase far exceeding previous operations in scale.
The escalation follows reports from BBC Persian indicating that Israeli and U.S. forces launched high-intensity airstrikes across Tehran early Monday. Reported targets included Sharif University of Technology and a local gas station, marking a significant shift toward urban centers.
The situation remains highly volatile as international pressure mounts. On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum via Truth Social, setting a Tuesday deadline for Iran to reach a new agreement. The President warned of total destruction should the deadline pass without a deal.
