65-Year-Old Arrested for Attempted Rape of Speech-Impaired Teen in Bheramara

Police in Kushtia’s Bheramara upazila have arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape a 17-year-old speech-impaired girl.

The accused identified as Samad Ali Biswas, was sent to jail by a court on Friday following his arrest.

According to Bheramara Police Station sources, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon. The teenager was watching television alone at home while her parents were away. Exploiting her vulnerability Biswas reportedly intruded into the house and attempted to assault her.

The assault was thwarted when a neighbor sensing something was wrong and rushed to the scene. Seeing the neighbor approach the accused fled the house.

Upon returning home victim's parents were informed of the incident and immediately filed a formal complaint at the Bheramara Police Station. Police swiftly launched a raid and apprehended Biswas later that day.

Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahedur Rahman confirmed the details of the arrest. He stated that a formal case has been registered against the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. Following standard legal procedures the court subsequently ordered Biswas to be sent to jail pending further investigation.
