Although the lamb meat allocated to the poor and orphans was supposed to be distributed on the afternoon of November 1st at the Pabna Circuit House premises, it has been alleged that the employees looted it with the connivance of some district administration officials.
During the distribution of lamb meat in the Circuit House premises, the employees fled after sensing the presence of a group of news personnel.
While talking to several eyewitnesses, they said that some district administration employees were dividing the meat allocated for distribution to the poor, orphanages and madrasas among themselves. Seeing the journalists, they quickly started running away from the scene.
Reliable sources said that a truck full of meat cartons from abroad reached Pabna on Friday night. Although the meat was supposed to be distributed to orphanages and madrasas after making a list through the Upazila Project Implementation Officers (PIOs), it has been alleged that a large part of it was embezzled by district administration officials. According to the information, a total of 16 cartons contained about 320 kg of meat. Most of it was reportedly seized during the distribution at the Circuit House on Saturday afternoon.
When contacted regarding the matter, Deputy Commissioner Mofizul Islam could not be reached. When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain said that he was in Dhaka. The incident has created widespread anger among the general public.
