The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested a suspected drug trafficker with 30,000 Yaba pills in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The arrestee, identified as Ashrafuzzaman Litu, is the son of Fazlul Haque Gazi from Satkhira’s Shyamnagar.
Acting on a tip-off, a DNC team intercepted a 'Satkhira Line' bus on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in the Atadi area. Litu was traveling from Cox’s Bazar to Satkhira. Upon searching his luggage, officers recovered the contraband pills.
Shirin Akhter, Deputy Director of the Faridpur DNC, noted that the expressway has become a frequent route for smuggling drugs into the southwest. "We have intensified our operations, resulting in several major hauls this month," she said.
A case is being filed at the Bhanga Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. The suspect is expected to be produced before the court on Monday.
