Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Srilekha Sana in Paikgachha, Khulna, nearly two and a half months after the crime occurred.
The suspects, identified as Sambhu Sana (65) and Sanjay Sana (45), both residents of Paschim Digha village, were apprehended on April 10. Authorities have produced them before the court with a formal remand prayer for further interrogation.
The victim, Srilekha Sana, wife of the late Fanindra Nath Sana, was found murdered in her kitchen on the night of January 21, 2024. She was alone at the time of the attack. Relatives discovered her body the following morning after breaking into the house. Her son, Govinda Sana, subsequently filed a murder case against unidentified individuals on January 23.
Preliminary investigations suggest a long-standing dispute over land and transport between the families of the victim and Sambhu Sana. While initial questioning of the victim's immediate relatives yielded no breakthroughs, police continued the probe using technical analysis and local intelligence.
Specialized units, including the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) and CID, visited the scene to collect forensic evidence.
SI Azizur Rahman (Investigation Officer) Confirmed the arrests were based on evidence gathered over a prolonged period but declined to provide further details to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.
Golam Kibria (OC, Paikgachha Police Station) Confirmed that the suspects are in judicial custody pending the court's decision on the remand application.
