


In a somber and respectful ceremony, the first hour of International Mother Language Day was observed at the Central Shaheed Minar in Chattogram. The tribute began at 12:01 AM on Friday with a ceremonial salute by a police contingent, setting a tone of deep gratitude for the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain led the proceedings by laying wreaths at the altar. He was followed by Chittagong-9 MP Abu Sufian and Chattogram-8 MP Md. Ershad Ullah. Senior administrative officials, including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia, also paid their respects.
Representing law enforcement, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz, Chattogram Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash, and Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan offered floral tributes. Brave freedom fighters also joined the ceremony, placing wreaths to honor the historic sacrifice.
The event saw participation from various political and social organizations, including the Chattogram Metropolitan BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and the Sramik Dal. Representatives from the Fire Service, Naval Police, PBI, and the Chattogram Journalists Union, along with citizens from all walks of life, gathered throughout the night to remember the language heroes.
