A young motorcyclist was killed and his companion critically injured after their bike hit a tree in Nageshwari on Wednesday morning. Following the accident, an agitated crowd reportedly snatched the deceased's body from emergency responders before police arrived.
The deceased was identified as Naeem Hossain (20), son of Golam Mostafa from Phulbari Upazila. The injured, Azizul Islam (21), has been referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Locals said the duo was traveling from Nakharganj to Nageshwari at around 10:00 AM when they lost control of the motorcycle near the Gopalpur Dangirpar bridge in Santoshpur Union. The bike crashed into a roadside eucalyptus tree, killing Naeem instantly.
Tension Over Custody of the Body A team from the Nageshwari Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the body. However, a dispute arose when a man identifying himself as a BGB member and the cousin of the deceased attempted to take the body.
Fire Service Station In-charge Shahadat Hossain explained, "We were waiting for the police to arrive to complete the handover. When we tried to stop the unauthorized removal of the body, the crowd became agitated and forcibly took it away to Phulbari."
Police Response Sub-Inspector (SI) Maqbul Hossain of Nageshwari Police Station confirmed that by the time officers reached the scene, the body had already been removed by the family and locals. "Since the deceased is from Phulbari, we have informed the relevant police station to take necessary legal steps," he added.
