A delegation from the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association's Laxmipur branch met with Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee on Saturday to demand the establishment of a government Institute of Health Technology (IHT) in the district.
Led by district Convener Abdul Kader and Member Secretary Gias Uddin, the leaders submitted a memorandum highlighting urgent healthcare needs. Alongside setting up an IHT, they demanded immediate recruitment to fill vacant health assistant posts and the appointment of necessary medical technologists across local hospitals.
The delegation emphasized that establishing an IHT would provide local students with professional medical technology education, produce skilled healthcare workers and create job opportunities. They added that filling vacant positions is essential to strengthening medical services at the grassroots level and ensuring smooth hospital diagnostics.
"Establishing an IHT in Laxmipur will expand medical access for local residents while building a trained healthcare workforce," health leaders stated during the discussion.
Minister Anee listened to their demands and assured the delegation that he would forward the proposal to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
