Govt to Increase Athlete Sports Cards to 500: Minister

The government will increase the number of financial allowance sports cards from 300 to 500 to support athletes contributing significantly to the nation's sports sector, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque announced today.

The State Minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a reception honoring accomplished players of the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP for 2026. The event was held this afternoon at the Ansar and VDP Academy auditorium in Safipur, Gazipur.Speaking on the development of football, the State Minister emphasized that grassroots initiatives have already begun to revitalize the sport. He expressed optimism that even with a lean squad of 15 to 20 elite players, Bangladesh will successfully elevate its standing in international football.

Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, attended the ceremony as the special guest. During the event, 23 Ansar members were honored for their outstanding achievements in various national and international sports competitions.

Later in the day, the State Minister attended the closing ceremony of the National Men's Baseball Championship 2026 at the academy's central playground as the chief guest.
