Australia 198 & 51/2 (Labuschagne 21*, Head 17; Mahmud 2/18) trail Bangladesh 426 (Tanzid 101, Shanto 84, Mehidy 65; Hazlewood 6/89) by 177 runs.

Hasan Mahmud dismissed both Australia openers as Bangladesh continued to dominate the third day of the Test in Darwin.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 426 earlier in the session, giving them a 228-run first-innings lead. Australia reached 51 for 2 by tea and still trail by 177 runs.

Mahmud struck in the second over, removing Jake Weatherald for a duck. Weatherald edged an away-going delivery onto his stumps after facing only three balls.

Travis Head briefly attacked, hitting Mahmud for two boundaries in the sixth over. But the Bangladesh seamer struck again in his next over, with Head chopping the ball onto his stumps for 17.

Taskin Ahmed also created pressure from the other end, repeatedly troubling Marnus Labuschagne. Australia went to tea with Labuschagne unbeaten on 21.

Earlier, Bangladesh produced a strong batting performance, spending 138 overs at the crease—the longest innings by an overseas team in Australia in the last seven years.

Tanzid Hasan led the way with a maiden Test century, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 84 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 65. Their contributions helped Bangladesh build one of their strongest overseas totals.

Australia's Josh Hazlewood finished with 6 for 89 and became the ninth Australian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets. However, Bangladesh's lower order frustrated the hosts, with Mehidy adding crucial runs alongside the tail.

Australia also dropped five catches during the innings, missing several chances to end Bangladesh's resistance earlier.

Bangladesh's 228-run lead is their largest-ever lead while batting second in an overseas Test, putting them in a strong position against Australia.
