FIFA and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding to launch the FIFA ASEAN Cup, a new tournament aimed at bolstering football development across the region.
The announcement was made during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated the competition will unite national teams from all ASEAN member states, using a format inspired by the 2021 Arab Cup. Infantino believes the tournament will be "a huge success" in boosting national team football and supporting the sport's development throughout Southeast Asia.
FIFA will collaborate with regional stakeholders, including the Asian Football Confederation and the ASEAN Football Federation, to finalize the structure of the new cup.
