


A 7-kilometre marathon running competition was held in Bheramara, Kushtia, on Friday under the initiative of Bheramara Sathi Food Park and Resort and Fitness Club-Gym.
The race started and ended at Bheramara Upazila Square, marking the first organised marathon event in the upazila. Around 300 runners took part in the competition, including about 25 women participants.
The marathon and prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Anwar Hossain, chairman of Bheramara Sathi Group. Bheramara Assistant Commissioner (Land) Dr Gazi Ashiq Bahar attended the event as the chief guest.
Special guests included Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jayedur Rahman, Jahangir Hossain Jewel, head of the Sports Department of Bheramara Government College, and other local dignitaries. The programme was conducted by journalist Abdul Alim.
Participants included both male and female runners from different backgrounds. Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury was also among the runners. Political leaders, administrative officials, and sports enthusiasts were present to encourage the participants.
The race route passed through Godown More, Chaitanya More, the road behind Swarnakar Patti, in front of the Mahila College, the four-way intersection, South Rail Gate, and Bheramara Bus Stand, before returning to the Upazila Square via the same route.
Organisers said the event was held in a festive and disciplined atmosphere and expressed hope that such initiatives would encourage fitness and sports culture in the area.
