


The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) has approved the creation of three new upazilas and one new thana.
The new upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangra in Cumilla and South Gafargaon in Mymensingh. The new thana Halda will be formed in Chattogram.
The decisions were made at NICAR's 121st meeting held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presiding, said PM's Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan.
He said the meeting also decided to bring the portions of the Purbachal New Town Project in Narayanganj and Gazipur districts are currently under RAJUK's jurisdiction into Dhaka district.
Fatikchhari North Upazila will be formed with six unions from Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram. Bangra Upazila will be created by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla. South Gafargaon Upazila will comprise eight unions under Pagla Police Station, separated from Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh.
Halda Thana will be established by dividing Hathazari Thana in Chattogram.
The meeting was attended by LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar and secretaries of relevant ministries.
