The government has decided to recruit 5 lakh government employees, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said. He added that recruitment against 2,879 vacant posts is currently underway under the Ministry of Public Administration and its subordinate departments and agencies.

He made the statement in a written reply during the Question and Answer session of the first session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday morning (April 15).

The Prime Minister also said that a central committee is working to identify playgrounds and plan infrastructure development in both urban and rural areas. The plan includes setting up open playgrounds of 8 bighas in each union and 10 bighas in each upazila.

He further said a committee has been formed to operate hi-tech and software parks and ICT centres effectively, and to take steps toward launching PayPal services in Bangladesh.

On sports development, he said a sports allowance has been introduced for national athletes under the national salary structure. In the first phase, 500 athletes were planned to receive this support, and 129 athletes have already been included.

He also said the unsecured loan limit for student visas has been increased from Tk 3 lakh to Tk 10 lakh. The process has also been simplified for Japan-bound students, allowing them to apply for loans using a certificate of eligibility before receiving a visa.
