


The newly elected MPs of the first phase of the parliamentary elections have taken oath. Tarique Rahman and BNP MPs took oath before Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the oath-taking room at around 11:45 am on Tuesday (February 17).
Local and foreign guests participated in the oath-taking ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed spoke before the MPs. He informed the party's decision on the Constitutional Reform Council. After taking the oath, the MPs signed the oath-taking papers.
According to the schedule, Tarique Rahman will be formally elected as the leader of the parliament at a meeting of the BNP parliamentary party at 11:30 am after the oath-taking.
Then, at 4 pm, Tarique Rahman and the new cabinet members will take oath as the Prime Minister before President Md. Shahabuddin in a special ceremony organized at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building.
The Cabinet Division will distribute the portfolios of the new ministers and issue a formal notification in the evening.
Last Thursday (February 12), the BNP alliance led by Tarique Rahman won 212 seats in the 13th National Parliament election, achieving an absolute majority. This is the sixth time in the history of Bangladesh that the BNP has come to power.
On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami is going to sit in the parliament as the main opposition party with 68 seats, and Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is going to be elected as their parliamentary leader.
If everything goes well, the first session of the 13th Parliament can be held on February 26.
