UK pledges close cooperation with Bangladesh

The UK has pledged to work closely with Dhaka on Bangladesh's economic growth, migration, climate and security issues, among other mutual priorities.

A spokesperson for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said, "We hope that the new government will continue to advance the path of democratic, economic and social reform."

The spokesperson added that the UK welcomed the parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh on February 12 and expressed satisfaction that the final results were achieved through a peaceful electoral process.

According to the British government official, "This is an important step towards fulfilling Bangladesh's goals and the aspirations of the people."

Earlier, the UK congratulated BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and his party on their landslide victory in the elections. At the same time, they also wished the common people of Bangladesh a happy new year.

In a message last Friday, the British High Commission in Dhaka said, "We look forward to working together in the future to achieve common goals such as economic growth, migration, climate change and security."
