Dhaka University (DU) has announced a 15-day closure of all classes and examinations due to escalating safety concerns following recent earthquakes and subsequent tremors in the region.
The decision was made today during an emergency virtual meeting of the DU Syndicate, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan.
The Syndicate prioritized the physical and psychological distress of students and analyzed assessments from BUET experts, alongside inputs from DU's Planning and Development Office and the Chief Engineer.
Based on the need for urgent comprehensive risk assessment and potential renovation work, the University has instructed all students to vacate their residential halls by 5:00 PM tomorrow. Provosts are responsible for ensuring this evacuation. All classes and examinations are suspended for the 15-day period.
University administrative offices, however, will remain open as usual. The closure is specifically aimed at facilitating detailed inspections and renovation planning for the student halls.
