One of the world’s biggest pop stars, Dua Lipa, is in the spotlight again—this time over a legal dispute rather than music or fashion. The British-Albanian singer has filed a lawsuit seeking 15 million US dollars (around 183 crore 56 lakh taka) against South Korean technology company Samsung for allegedly using her image without permission.

According to US media reports, the case was filed last Friday in the Central District Court of California. The lawsuit claims Samsung has been using Dua Lipa’s image on television packaging since 2024 without informing her or obtaining consent.

Court documents allege that the company used the singer’s global popularity and brand value to promote its products. Her legal team said a large-scale consumer campaign was launched using her image “without her consent, control or involvement.”

The complaint also states that the use of the image could mislead customers into believing Dua Lipa was officially connected to or endorsing the product. However, no such agreement existed between the singer and the company.

According to the lawsuit, the photo was taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Dua Lipa has also claimed copyright ownership of the image.

The legal filing includes several social media comments from users who believed the singer was associated with the television brand.

One user reportedly wrote, “I didn’t plan to buy the TV, but I bought it after seeing Dua Lipa’s picture on the box.”

Another commented, “I can buy that TV just because it has Dua Lipa’s photo on it.”

The singer’s legal team argues that these reactions show the campaign directly influenced consumer purchasing decisions.

The lawsuit further states that Dua Lipa has built herself into a “premium global brand” and carefully selects commercial partnerships in fashion, beauty and technology. Her lawyers claim that unauthorized use of her image has damaged her brand value while financially benefiting the company.

Samsung had not issued an official statement at the time this report was published.

Beyond music, Dua Lipa has become one of the most recognizable faces in global fashion and brand marketing in recent years.
