Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily halted while director Matt Reeves takes time off to attend to a family matter as DC Studios confirmed.
Filming for the sequel began in London in June following several script-related delays. Despite the pause DC Studios expressed full support for the filmmaker also stating they look forward to resuming work soon. The movie is scheduled for release on February 18, 2028.
The Batman Part II is considered a major priority for DC Studios and given the box office appeal of its flagship superhero. Robert Pattinson reprises his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman joined by new cast additions Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.
Reeves directed the 2022 blockbuster The Batman which earned $770.3 million worldwide and launched the hit spin-off series The Penguin. He is also a producer on DC's upcoming villain origin film Clayface set to premiere on October 23.
The production pause comes as Skydance completes its acquisition of Warner Bros., the parent company of DC Studios. While DC chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran are remaining in their positions under new ownership also several senior Warner Bros. film executives are stepping down.
