Police say Belal Uddin, chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami unit in Thakurgaon district, has been detained at Saidpur Airport with what authorities described as “a bag of cash.”

Sheikh Jahidul Islam, superintendent of police in Nilphamari, said Belal arrived at the airport from Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight. He was carrying a bag that police claim contained Tk 5 million.

“We will open the bag in front of everyone,” Jahidul said. “He will be handed over to the Saidpur Police Station. More details will be shared later.”

Belal is a resident of Hazipara in Thakurgaon town. Police did not immediately say whether formal charges have been filed. An investigation is ongoing.
