The government is preparing to appoint a new chairman to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). Masud Khan, the current chairman of Unilever Consumer Care has emerged as the frontrunner to lead the capital market regulator.

Discussions regarding leadership changes at the BSEC have intensified following the formation of the new government led by Tarique Rahman on February 17. The administration is reportedly seeking a successor to current Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood, who was appointed during the previous interim government.

While other names including DSE Brokers Association (DBA) President Saiful Islam, former BSEC Chairman Faruq Ahmad Siddiqi and former Secretary Faridul Islam have circulated in market circles and high-level sources suggest the government has narrowed its focus toward Masud Khan to drive the next phase of market regulation.
