One killed, 10 injured in Madaripur road accident

One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Madaripur on Saturday midnight.

The accident took place around 12:00 am in the Samaddar area under Sadar Upazila.

Police said the deceased was the driver of the truck, but his identity could not be confirmed immediately. His body has been kept at the Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue.

According to police and locals, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Unique Paribahan, which had started from Kuakata in Patuakhali, collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction upon reaching the Samaddar area.

The truck driver died on the spot, while at least 10 bus passengers sustained injuries.

Being informed, a team from the Fire Service and Highway Police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and admitted them to Madaripur Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mostafapur Highway Police Station Md. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident.
