


A high-level meeting on the overall development of Gopalganj district was held at the Local Government Division conference room at the Secretariat on May 8, 2026.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects, activities of local government institutions, and future plans for the district.
Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan chaired the meeting in the absence of State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, who attended the inauguration of Police Week.
Members of Parliament from Gopalganj-1, Gopalganj-2 and Gopalganj-3 constituencies — Selimuzzaman Selim, KM Babar and SM Jilani — attended the meeting.
During the discussion, the lawmakers highlighted the development priorities and infrastructure needs of their constituencies and sought ministry support for the quick implementation of ongoing and proposed projects.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had directed authorities to ensure Gopalganj receives equal importance in the national development framework alongside other districts.
He said the meeting was arranged to review current development activities and prepare future implementation strategies for the district.
Officials presented updates on the progress, challenges and implementation status of several ongoing projects in Gopalganj. The secretary later stressed the need for stronger coordination and timely action to ensure effective implementation of the projects.
Among those present were Director General of the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Wing Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Local Government Engineering Department Chief Engineer Md. Belal Hossain, Department of Public Health Engineering Chief Engineer Md. Abdul Awal, Gopalganj Executive Engineer Md. Ehsanul Haque, and project directors of different ongoing development projects.
