


International Workers’ Day, widely known as Great May Day, and National Occupational Health and Safety Day were observed in Muksudpur of Gopalganj with due dignity and enthusiasm.
Marking the occasion, the Muksudpur Upazila Administration organized a colorful rally on Friday (May 1) under the theme, “Healthy Workers, Productive Hands, A New Dawn Awaits.” The rally began at 10:00 AM from the Upazila Parishad premises and was led by Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Ashik Kabir.
The procession marched through the main roads of the Upazila before concluding at the starting point. Leaders from political, social, and professional organizations, along with government officials and local residents, participated in the event.
Among those present were Muksudpur Upazila BNP President Abdul Salam Khan, General Secretary Md. Tarikul Islam Raju, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Muksudpur Police Station Md. Matiar Molla, Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Rakibul Hasan Shuvo, and Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abdul Jabbar.
Also attending the program were Muksudpur Municipal unit of BNP President Abul Bashar Tultu Biswas, General Secretary Mosiur Rahman Mintu, Muksudpur Press Club President Md. Chhru Mia, Organizational Secretary Abdul Kaiyum Sharif, Convener of Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal Mehedi Hasan Biplob, and Convener of Municipal unit of Jubo Dal Saifuzzaman Liton, among others.
May Day is internationally recognized as a historic symbol of the struggle for workers’ rights. On May 1, 1886, workers in Chicago, United States, staged protests demanding an eight-hour workday. During the movement, several workers were killed in police firing. In remembrance of their sacrifice, May Day is observed every year across the world as a symbol of workers’ unity, rights, and dignity.
