The Paikgachha Upazila Parishad premises in Khulna are being transformed with vibrant colors and festive decor to welcome the Bangla New Year 1433. As the heat of Chaitra fades, the local administration is working around the clock to ensure a colorful start to the first morning of Baishakh.
This year’s celebrations center on the theme: 'New Year's Unity, Democracy Revival.' The theme aims to promote social harmony and the restoration of democratic values.
On Sunday (April 12) afternoon, workers and artists were seen busy preparing symbolic structures for the traditional Mangal Shobhajatra (procession). Artisans are using bamboo and wood to craft large-scale motifs, while the streets are being adorned with intricate Alpana (traditional floor art) and watercolor paintings depicting rural life in Bengal.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury stated that the Bengali New Year is deeply rooted in our identity. "This year’s celebration will highlight essential social and cultural messages. Much like a rooster’s crow signals a new dawn, this Pohela Baishakh will symbolize a new awakening," he said.
In addition to the official festivities, local educational institutions, political groups, and social organizations have organized various cultural programs to mark the occasion.
