Customs officials seized 429 cartons of illegal cigarettes from two passengers at Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from Customs Intelligence and Airport Customs intercepted the passengers arriving from Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight. Upon searching their luggage, officials discovered the consignment.

The detained individuals were identified as Hasan Mia from Banshkhali and Mohammad Ibrahimul Karim from Chakaria. Officials estimated the market value of the seized goods at approximately 8.58 lakh BDT.

Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the airport's Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the cigarettes are now in the custody of Chattogram Customs House. Following the seizure, both passengers were released after receiving a formal verbal warning from the Customs authorities.
