


A discussion meeting marking International Women's Day 2026 was held in Jhalakathi on Sunday, March 8. Organized by the District Administration and the Department of Women’s Affairs, the event took place at the district administration conference room under the theme: "Today's steps are tomorrow's justice, let the rights of women and girls be protected."
The program was held in collaboration with the National Women's Organization and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). Dilara Khanam, Deputy Director of the Department of Women's Affairs, presided over the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shakila Rahman attended as the chief guest, while Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saiful Islam and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Segufta Mehnaz were present as special guests.
During the event, Sanak member Shimul Sultana Hepi presented TIB’s concept paper. Highlighting the national significance of the day, she emphasized the demand for equal representation of women in politics and elections to ensure lasting justice.
Other speakers included Nari Unnayan Medal winner Kabita Hawlader, Advocate Sakina Alam Liza, BRAC District Coordinator Farhana Tabassum, and veteran freedom fighter Satyaban Sengupta.
The speakers urged collective action to ensure the dignity and security of women in all sectors. Chief guest Shakila Rahman noted that government initiatives must be supported by social awareness to create a developed, equitable society. Special guests added that enforcing laws alone is insufficient; social mindsets must change to eliminate violence and discrimination, as sustainable development is impossible without women's participation.
