Police arrested a 22-year-old man and seized five kilograms of marijuana during a raid at a check post on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
The incident occurred on February 22, 2026, near the Meghna Toll Plaza in the Asharirchar area. According to police, officers signaled a Dhaka-bound motorcycle coming from Comilla to stop at approximately 4:35 pm. The riders ignored the signal and attempted to flee toward the capital.
During the pursuit, the motorcycle's rear tire punctured, forcing the two riders to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot. Upon searching the abandoned motorcycle, police discovered two tape-wrapped pots hidden inside a noodle carton. A total of five kilograms of marijuana was found inside the containers.
Following a subsequent drive, police arrested Jisan (22) from the Bhavanathpur area later that night at around 11:25 pm.
During initial questioning, Jisan reportedly confessed to purchasing the drugs from an unidentified seller in Daudkandi, Comilla, with the intent to sell them in the Kanchpur area. He identified his accomplice as Jiban, who was driving the motorcycle at the time of the chase.
Police have seized the motorcycle and are currently conducting operations to arrest the absconding suspect, Jiban. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
