A fire broke out at the closed Central City Hospital near Probortok More in Chattogram city late Sunday night. Fire service officials brought the blaze under control after breaking open the locked gate to enter the premises.
According to witnesses, flames were first noticed shortly after midnight, prompting locals and passersby to alert the fire service. Four units from the Nandan Kanan and Chandanpura fire stations responded and managed to extinguish the fire around 12:45 a.m., said Abdul Mannan, an officer from Agrabad Fire Service.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be determined, pending investigation.
Earlier, on June 26, the hospital had been ordered shut down by the Civil Surgeon’s office following a Health Directorate recommendation, citing irregularities and violations of health safety regulations.
