Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has ranked first among all public universities in Bangladesh in the Life Sciences category of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Subject Rankings 2026.
The ranking was published on THE’s official website on Wednesday (January 21). It places GAU in the 601–800 band globally, recognising its performance in research quality, international outlook, research environment and teaching.
According to the ranking, GAU achieved the highest research quality score of 69.5 among all public and private universities in the country. A total of 1,211 universities from 98 countries were assessed across four subject areas: veterinary science, biology, agriculture and forestry, and sports science.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mostafizur Rahman welcomed the achievement, congratulating teachers, students, officers and staff of the university.
“This recognition reflects the international standard and responsibility of our research,” he said. “We see this not as a reason for complacency, but as motivation to strengthen quality research, innovation and service to society. GAU aims to continue contributing to Bangladesh’s progress in agriculture, biology and sustainable development.”
GAU has also performed strongly in other global rankings. Earlier, it ranked first among agricultural universities in Bangladesh in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026. The university has also topped several categories in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2025 and 2026 among both public and private universities nationwide.
In addition, GAU ranked 77th globally in the “Development and Application” category of the UI GreenMetric/URI Rankings 2025, placing first nationally. Overall, nine public universities and one private university from Bangladesh were included in the THE subject rankings 2026.
The information was shared through a press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Department.
